Chairman and CEO of the Miss World organisation, Julia Morley, has announced that the global competition will not be held this year.

In a Facebook post, Morely said the 70th Miss World final will be held in the latter part of 2021 and the host country and venue will be confirmed very soon.

Crown of Beauty, the licence holder for the contest in Jamaica was not caught off guard by this decision and has a plan involving past beauty queens.

Media personality and co-franchise holder, Dahlia Harris, told The Gleaner, that the Miss World organisation has always prioritised beauty with a purpose.

"It came as no surprise to us therefore that in a year when the world grapples with COVID-19, they would focus attention on the needs of people around the world," she said.

Harris said her team will be calling on past queens, led by Miss World title holders, to engender a spirit of resilience and hope through online and face-to-face activities.

While Harris did not divulge the details of this project, she said that Crown of Beauty will be working closely with the Miss World Organisation on the execution of these activities.

The franchise holders had already stated that the reign of Miss World 2019, Jamaican Toni-Ann Singh, would be extended.
